ABOUT THE BOOK
Since World War II, Johnstown has been home to the All American Amateur Baseball Association national tournament, which reaches its 75th anniversary in 2019.
The annual event has produced baseball legends such as Al Kaline, Sparky Lyle, Joe Torre and hometown pitcher Pete Vuckovich. Great franchises from Baltimore, New Orleans, Detroit and Washington have dominated the championships – with Johnstown finally joining the victory parade with a triumph by Martella’s Pharmacy in 2018.
To honor the tournament’s 75th anniversary and to celebrate the shared history of the AAABA and the community, this summer The Tribune-Democrat will publish “A Diamond In Johnstown” – a book tracking teams, players and contributors – just in time for the AAABA’s 2019 showcase.
This hardcover coffee-table book will be filled with photographs, stories and memories from the days of Glenn L. Martin and the founding of the tournament to the present – a must-have for those who participated in or just loved to watch the AAABA.
